Welcome to the
International
Services Office !
The International Services Office (ISO) provides
primarily immigration advisory services
to international students regarding their educational, financial,
immigration, personal and social concerns in relation to their
status in the US. Similar services are
available to international faculty and research scholars. The ISO is
responsible for the University's compliance with federal regulations
which pertain to non-immigrant students and employees.
More specifically, the ISO serves as the final phase of the
admission of international applicants by determining their
compliance with University and/or U.S. government regulations, laws
and policies, and their ability to finance their program of study or
research at LSU. The ISO also determines eligibility for applicants
and their dependents to receive non-immigrant documentation for F-,
J-, H-, E, TN- or O- visa status sponsored by the University .
The ISO prepares all documents necessary for international students,
faculty and staff sponsored by the university to achieve and/or maintain proper non-immigrant
status in the U.S. and conducts orientation programs for all new
international students and scholars. All non-immigrant students
seeking permission to work on or off campus must receive approval
and/or recommendation from this office.
The ISO meets federal regulation compliance requirements by
reporting to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
on all F- and J- visa holders enrolled at LSU. International
students in F-1 and J-1 visa status are charged a $50.00
International Student Status Compliance charge for each semester
of registration (excluding intersessions) for maintenance of
full federal government compliance with the SEVIS reporting
system. The ISO is
responsible for setting up billing contracts for students who have a
sponsoring organization.
LSU requires all non-immigrants on F and J visa status to have
acceptable health insurance which meets University policy. The ISO
is responsible for determining acceptability of insurance plans
submitted by students as alternatives to the LSU insurance plan.
This process impacts how much or whether an international student is
charged for insurance.
The office also assists with campus intercultural activities that
contribute to the cultural environment of the community.
The ISO assists the University's international student services and
programs. It serves as liaison to community organizations, faculty
and student groups, and governmental and private agencies.
Small short-term emergency loans for international students and a
limited number of partial scholarships for international
undergraduate students who have been enrolled at LSU for one year
with excellent grades may be applied for through this office.
