Welcome to
International Services !
The International Services (IS) provides primarily immigration
advisory services to international students regarding their
educational, financial, immigration, personal and social
concerns in relation to their status in the US. Similar services
are available to international faculty and research scholars.
The IS is responsible for the University's compliance with
federal regulations which pertain to non-immigrant students and
employees.
More specifically, the IS serves as the final phase of the
admission of international applicants by determining their
compliance with University and/or U.S. government regulations,
laws and policies, and their ability to finance their program of
study or research at LSU. The IS also determines eligibility for
participant’s dependents to receive non-immigrant documentation
for F-, J-, H-, E-, TN- or O- visa status sponsored by the
University.
The IS prepares all documents necessary for international
students, faculty and staff sponsored by the university, as well
as providing advising, to achieve and/or maintain proper
non-immigrant status in the U.S. It conducts orientation
programs for all new international students and scholars. All
non-immigrant students seeking permission to work on or off
campus must receive approval and/or recommendation required for
authorization from this office. The IS is responsible for
setting up fee billing contracts for students who have a
sponsoring organization.
The IS meets federal regulation compliance requirements by
reporting to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System
(SEVIS) on all F- and J- visa holders enrolled at LSU.
International students in F-1 and J-1 visa status are charged a
mandatory $50 International Student Status Compliance (ISSC)
charge for each semester of registration (excluding
intersessions) for maintenance of full federal government
compliance with the SEVIS reporting system.
LSU requires all non-immigrants on F and J visa status to have
acceptable health insurance which meets specific University
policy requirements. The IS is responsible for determining the
acceptability of insurance plans submitted by students as
alternatives to the LSU insurance plan. This process impacts how
much or whether an international student is charged for LSU
health insurance.
The IS assists the University's international student services
and programs. It serves as liaison to community organizations,
faculty and student groups, and governmental and private
agencies.
Small (less than $500) short-term emergency loans for
international students may be available through this office.
